April 16th Dalmore Tasting

April 2013 Flyer ScreenshotTickets are now on sale for our April 16th tasting. Ralph Rooke, Brand Ambassador for Dalmore, will be moderating a tasting of 8 whiskies. We’ll be tasting 5 whiskies from Dalmore: The 12, 15 and 18 Year Old whiskies, the Cigar Malt and the King Alexander. We’ll also be tasting 2 whiskies from the Isle of Jura: Superstition and Prophecy. And finally we’ll be tasting the legendary Mackinlay’s Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt. If you aren’t familiar with the story of Sir Ernest Shackleton, the Endurance expedition and his recently discovered cache of whisky in Antarctica, it really is an epic story well documented in photos and an excellent documentary. (read more here).

It really will be a great night at our usual venue, Waterman Grille, and tickets are available for purchase for $30 at Bottles Fine Wine. Although we normally sell out quickly, I expect this tasting to sell out very quickly, both because of the great lineup of whiskies to be tasted, but also because WhiskyRI is growing each month.

We’ll be doing the usual raffle at the end of the night to help raise money for Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, dedicated to helping homeless veterans. in 2012 we raised $400 and so far in 2013 we’ve already raised $210

Jay Scenti, from Campari, leads a tasting for WhiskyRI at the Waterman Grille, Tuesday March 5th.

I just wanted to thank everyone who attended tonight’s tasting. In addition to the budget tour around the regions of Scotland, we tasted some very special whiskies not on the tasting list. Special thanks to Jay Scenti for leading such a great tasting and for bringing some extra special whiskies.

We raised $110 for Operation Stand Down Rhode Island – an organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans. Our next tasting will be Tuesday April 16th. Tickets will go on sale in a few weeks. Also there was a phone left behind at Waterman Grille. Contact the restaurant if this was your phone. Thank you again. -t

March 5th Whisky Tasting

March 2013 Flyer ScreenshotI’m pleased to announce that tickets for our March 5th “8 Whiskies from 4 regions of Scotland” tasting at Waterman Grille are now on sale at Bottles Fine Wine. This tasting will be moderated by Jay Scenti, Divisional Manager, Campari USA, and he’ll lead us through 4 of the 5 whisky regions of Scotland.

The evening will start in the Lowlands with the Auchentoshan 12 Year Old and 3 Wood. From the Lowlands we’ll head to Speyside to taste The Glen Grant 10 Year Old and 16 Year Old. After Speyside we’ll head to the Highlands to taste the Glen Garioch 1797 Founders Reserve. The evening will end on the island of Islay tasting three Bowmore whiskies: the 12 Year old, the 15 Year old Darkest and finishing the night with the Bowmore Dorus Mor.

This tasting will offer a whisky style for almost everyone. From lighter fruitier styles all the way to big peaty whiskies showcasing Islay’s famous flavors. This will be a great tasting and an unusual opportunity to taste and compare so many whiskies at once. Hope to see you there. -t
